Project Engineer/Scientist - Boulder, CO

S.S. Papadopulos & Associates, Inc. (SSP&A) is currently seeking a Project Engineer or Scientist for our Boulder, Colorado, office to conduct technical environmental assessments and provide project management for environmental remediation and investigation projects involving soil and groundwater contamination.   

As a Project Engineer/Scientist and an integral part of our team the selected candidate will be directly responsible for the following:

  • Serving as technical leader for investigation and remediation projects, including performing data evaluations, preparing reports, developing supporting documentation such as figures and databases, and compiling project deliverables.
  • Developing and implementing soil/groundwater investigation and remediation work plans.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations pertaining to solid waste sites.
  • Managing SSP&A project staff and subcontractors.
  • Assuring project quality, budget, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Interacting with clients and assisting senior staff with company business development activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of professional experience or Master’s degree with 3+ years of professional experience in Engineering, Geology, Hydrologic Sciences, or related physical sciences.
  • If an engineer, a PE license, preferably in Colorado, or eligibility for licensing within 1 year.  If a geologist, professional registration in at least one state is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of the investigation, remediation, and proper disposal of hazardous materials under CERCLA, RCRA and/or State environmental cleanup programs.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER and current 8-hour refresher training. 
  • Required skills and abilities:
  • Must have strong written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills;
  • Substantial quantitative and computing experience;
  • Excellent organizational skills and an attention to detail; and
  • Possess enthusiasm and willingness to pitch in on a variety of tasks.
  • Expert level technical computing skills in MS Office and one or more of the following:
  • GIS (ArcMAP) or AutoCAD
  • Database software (Access or PostgreSQL)
  • Programming (VB, R or Python preferred)
