Senior Staff Engineer/Scientist - Boulder, CO

S.S. Papadopulos & Associates, Inc. (SSP&A) is seeking a scientist or engineer with 3 to 5 years of experience in our Boulder, Colorado office.  The successful candidate will provide technical support and field project management for environmental and water resource studies and contamination/remediation projects.  Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a team environment are necessary for this position. 
Responsibilities include a variety of project-related tasks for both government and private sector clients, including:

  • Developing and implementing sampling programs, including: drilling oversight; installation of groundwater wells; sampling of groundwater, soil, soil gas, surface water, sediment, and IDW; and accurately and comprehensively recording field data for reporting.
  • Preparing environmental reports, including: data evaluation and trend analysis; tabulation and mapping of data; and text preparation. 
  • Assisting Project Managers with initiating, planning, executing, and controlling projects, including: preparing Scope of Work, cost estimates, and schedules; tracking activities and budgets; assisting with supervision of subcontractors to ensure work is performed in accordance with contract specifications; and preparing routine progress reports.
  • Interacting with clients and assisting with developing company business goals. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Hydrologic Sciences, or related environmental sciences with strong quantitative skills.
  • Technical expertise and solid understanding of one or more of the following disciplines: groundwater/surface water hydrology, hydrogeology, water resource evaluation, and/or contamination and remediation studies.
  • Basic of understanding of the investigation and remediation of hazardous materials release sites under CERCLA/RCRA or State environmental cleanup programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather, compile, and manipulate datasets; effectively synthesize and interpret site data; and develop written technical documents and tabular presentation of data.
  • Existing certifications for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training specified in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (e) is a plus.
  • Experience with GIS (ArcMap), land survey techniques, database software (Access preferred or PostgreSQL), advanced Excel/VB capabilities, or R or Python programming is a plus. 
  • Detail-oriented, motivated, organized, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
