SSP&A Software Release: mod-PATH3DU

Sep 2016

S.S. Papadopulos & Associates, Inc., in collaboration with the University of Waterloo, is pleased to announce the release of mod-PATH3DU v.1.1.0, a particle path and travel-time simulator for structured and unstructured grids. This latest release includes the Waterloo method – the most powerful particle tracking algorithm available for MODFLOW and MODFLOW-USG.  The original PATH3D was one of the first particle tracking programs to support MODFLOW. Since that time, the MODPATH program has become the most widely used particle tracking program for MODFLOW simulators. mod-PATH3DU integrates the capabilities of PATH3D and MODPATH within a single program that is compatible with MODFLOW-2000/2005/USG. Simply register and download the program by following the appropriate links on

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has recently developed a new version of the groundwater flow model MODFLOW, called MODFLOW-USG, to support a wide variety of structured and unstructured grid types. However, there is not any particle tracking code adapted to it. We developed mod-PATH3DU to satisfy this need.
