Project to Senior Project-Level Geologist/Hydrogeologist - Rockville, MD

Job Description

S. S. Papadopulos & Associates, Inc. (SSP&A), a nationally-recognized consulting company, is currently seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Project to Senior Project-Level Geologist / Hydrogeologist in our new Rockville, Maryland office.  The scope of project work may cover a wide range of topics including groundwater resource evaluation, groundwater modeling, field investigations and data analyses for environmental issues and litigation, site remediation, and remedy design and evaluation.    To be considered, the applicant should possess a Master’s degree or PhD in one of the following areas: Geology, Hydrology or Hydrogeology, with 4 to 8 years’ practical experience in environmental consulting or a closely-related field.  The successful applicant will be able to work independently or as part of a team, co-manage projects, complete and oversee high-quality technical work, have excellent writing skills, help maintain an ongoing client base and assist with development of new opportunities.  Technical excellence and writing skills are mandatory.


Job Requirements

Ideal Qualifications for an Applicant:

  1. M.S. degree, or PhD degree with 4+ years’ practical work experience in Geology, Hydrology, Hydrogeology or a related field;
  2. Understanding of fundamentals of physical geology, stratigraphy, and structural geology;
  3. Understanding of fundamentals of physical hydrology, flow in porous media, and aqueous contaminant fate and transport;
  4. Strong quantitative skills;
  5. Ability to compile and manipulate datasets using programming languages or database software (e.g., Fortran, R, advanced Excel capabilities, Access, ArcGIS)
  6. Field experience (such as, drilling supervision, remedial investigation oversight, water and soil sampling, stream gaging, aquifer testing);
  7. Excellent written communication skills and experience preparing technical memoranda and project reports, as well as completing peer and technical quality reviews of projects written by others;
  8. Experience co-managing project budgets and staff, maintaining client relationships, and developing new business;
  9. Active state registration(s) as geologist or engineer preferred;
  10. Enthusiastic and innovative thinking with a strong work ethic and team mentality.
