S.S. PAPADOPULOS & ASSOCIATES, INC. (SSP&A), an environmental and water resources consulting firm, is currently seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Senior Staff Scientist or Project Scientist Level Hydrogeologist / Groundwater Modeler in our Rockville, Maryland corporate office. This position is not remote. All non-field work will be 100% on site in the Rockville, Maryland office.
Project work will cover a wide range of topics including groundwater resource evaluation, flow and transport modeling, and data analysis supporting environmental analysis, remediation, remedy design and evaluation, and litigation.
The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in one of the following areas: Geology, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, or Environmental Engineering. Practical applied work experience is desirable. The successful applicant will likely possess excellent quantitative and programming skills, work independently, complete high-quality technical work, and combine self-motivation with a strong work ethic.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS
- M.S. degree, or B.S. degree with 4+ years’ practical work experience in Geology, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering or related field
- Quantitative skills supported by comfort with applied math and statistics
- Understanding of fundamentals of physical geology, stratigraphy, and structural geology
- Understanding of fundamentals of physical hydrology, flow in porous media, and analytical and numerical methods in hydrogeology
- Ability to compile and manipulate datasets using programming languages and/or database software (e.g., Fortran, R, Python, advanced Excel capabilities, Access, PostgreSQL)
- Working experience with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and basic geospatial concepts
- Experience with groundwater modeling software such as MODFLOW, MODPATH, MT3D, and pre-/post-processors (e.g., Groundwater Vistas or GMS)
- Experience preparing technical memoranda and project reports
- Field experience (such as, drilling supervision, remedial investigation oversight, water quality and soil sampling, stream flow gaging, aquifer test planning and execution)

SALARY RANGE
Salary will be dependent upon experience, ranging from $77,000 to $110,000 annually.
