Geophysical methods are increasingly used in site-characterization and hydrogeologic studies to provide continuous and detailed information of the subsurface. In our experience, scoping and incorporating the value of appropriate geophysical methods at the outset of a project improves project outcomes and reduces overall costs.

SSP&A has expertise in geophysical data collection and modeling, and in the interpretation of the data obtained from numerous geophysical methods and models. Specific geophysical services include:

  • Collection, modeling, analysis, and geologic interpretation of geophysical data;
  • Assistance identifying benefits, limitations, and expected outcomes of geophysical methods for specific projects;
  • Incorporation of prior information into geophysical modeling;
  • Reprocessing and modeling of geophysical data;
  • QA/QC of geophysical data, models, methodologies, and interpretations; and
  • Expert reports and litigation services.

SSP&A has developed computational methods and supporting codes to formally incorporate geophysical data and models into the design, construction, parameterization, and calibration of groundwater models. Most recently this is exemplified by the development of Data2Texture and Texture2Par on behalf of California Department of Water Resources to combine borehole stratigraphy, AEM, and other geophysical data into the development of HCMs and as a basis for parameterizing aquifer parameters in groundwater models.
