Mr. Zhang provides expertise in hydrogeology with particular emphasis on numerical modeling of groundwater flow, solute transport, and numerical simulation of groundwater/surface-water interaction. He has extensive experience in the interpretation of hydrogeologic data and conceptualization of groundwater systems to assess regional groundwater resources and environmental impacts of open pit and underground mining on groundwater.
Dr. Zhang is proficient with numerous groundwater modeling software programs including MODFLOW, MT3DMS, and FEFLOW and has participated in the design and development of the programs SEAWATER (a salt-/fresh-water interface steady-state calculation using MODFLOW), FC (Flow characterization, sustainable yield estimation and borehole protection zone delineation), and SALTLOAD (a post-processing program for groundwater flux and salt loading calculations). Mr. Zhang has also added multi-species sequential biodegradation capabilities to MT3DMS.
