Internship Program Summary
S.S. Papadopulos and Associates, Inc. (SSP&A) supports a paid internship program (Summer Internships and Work/Study Internships) in our offices in Rockville, Maryland; Boulder, Colorado; and San Francisco, California. For over 25 years, SSP&A has worked with cooperative education and internship programs in schools across the U.S. and Canada to provide real-world experience to students and to foster an interest in hydrologic sciences and environmental remediation.
SSP&A is no longer accepting applications for Summer 2026 Internships; please check back in the Fall for more information.
What to Expect
Interns fully participate in SSP&A's ongoing projects. Our work includes the investigation and remediation of groundwater and soil contamination, regional aquifer analysis and water supply development, and computer modeling of hydrologic systems. Interns assist senior personnel in the interpretation of geochemical and/or hydrologic data related to remediation of water resource investigations. Tasks will include compilation, analysis, and display (including GIS) of temporal and spatial data.
In addition, interns with an interest in hydrogeology will be exposed to a variety of analytical and numerical models for the simulation of groundwater flow and solute transport.
What You Bring
Although SSP&A interns are not required to have prior experience, an interest in hydrology or geochemistry is desirable.
Types of Projects
SSP&A Interns work on a variety of different projects, with guidance and encouragement from longtime staff. The following project summaries demonstrate the multi-disciplinary nature of the services SSP&A provides, and the types of projects we work on:
This internship was an incredibly rewarding experience that challenged me to think differently, adapt quickly, and learn from the guidance of those around me.
…The office truly felt like a family, and I want to thank not only my mentors but also the rest of the team for making this such an enjoyable and meaningful experience.”
I grew a lot as a professional and as a person during my internship. I am grateful to Dr. DiFilippo, Dr. Soderberg, and everyone at SSP&A for the support I received, and I am looking forward to taking what I learned and continuing to grow and progress in my academic and career pursuits.”
I learned a lot over my internship and was able to get a better idea of what topics I want to study more in the future. I was also able to learn a lot about geology, hydrology, and modeling from a variety of the Brown Bag talks. I am very grateful for my experience and would like to thank everyone at SSPA for their warm welcome and wealth of knowledge they gave me!”
This summer, I was immediately surrounded by some of the smartest minds in the world. Many with PHDs, Masters, awards, and years of industry and technical experience, every coffee chat, or conversation increased my knowledge and gave me a new perspective on SSPA’s several fields and many topics within computer science. I truly felt like I was constantly learning and gaining insights from those around me.”
I am very thankful for my time here at SSP&A. This company is comprised of accepting, intelligent individuals that want to see their interns prosper. I have gained an incredibly broad range of knowledge from this experience that will support me through my future endeavors.”
SSP&A is one of those remarkable places where everyone is both incredibly smart and incredibly generous, making me feel welcome from day one.”
