The State of Minnesota selected SSP&A to provide expert services for a natural resources damage lawsuit related to impacts to groundwater and surface water from releases of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from the 3M manufacturing facility in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. The releases included direct discharge to a large river as well as leachate from disposal areas via groundwater that discharged to surface water.
In support of this litigation, Dr. Soderberg of SSP&A conducted surface water and sediment sampling to demonstrate the scale of the impacts to natural resources across an area of approximately 200 square miles.
Dr. Andrews of SSP&A served as an expert for the State of Minnesota and provided a report detailing his evaluation of the nature of wastes containing PFAS that were produced at the 3M Cottage Grove facility, the disposal of these wastes on-site and at three nearby disposal sites, and the migration of PFAS from the disposal sites to groundwater and surface water.
This matter was settled just prior to trial for $850 million.
